Stone, sand and pavers all weigh the same whether they are delivered or carried, and the difference is hours. A driveway on a gradient is built in steps in the base, not as a single sloping mattress of stone. Each step is compacted level, which is what stops the whole build-up creeping downhill over the years. It is slower than building on the flat and it is the reason a sloped rate is higher.
