Paving Cape Town: Driveways, Patios and Pool Surrounds

Herringbone driveway paving in buff pavers, edged with a charcoal paver border.

We pave driveways, patios, pool surrounds and parking areas across greater Cape Town, the Winelands, Helderberg and the West Coast. Installed work starts at R230 per square metre for half paving and R320 for cement bond, everything included. That rate covers ground preparation, paving materials and their delivery, laying, grouting and rubble removal. We measure on site, price the job in writing per square metre, and do the work ourselves — we do not pass your job to another contractor. A typical driveway is laid in two to three days. Our team has been laying paving since 2019.

What we install

Job Typical build-up Installed rate
Driveways Compacted G5 sub-base, 60mm pavers, herringbone, restrained edges R300 – R420/m²
Patios and braai areas Lighter base, 50mm pavers, pattern chosen for the space R300 – R520/m²
Pool surrounds Non-slip surface laid to fall away from the water R380 – R650/m²
Parking areas Deeper base sized to the heaviest vehicle using it R320 – R490/m²
Repairs and re-laying Sunken sections lifted, base corrected, original bricks re-laid from R150/m²

Alongside brick paving we lay cobbles, exposed aggregate and tar driveways.

Driveway paving

For driveway paving, we lay a compacted G5 stone sub-base under the pavers. Sizes, layouts and costs are on the driveways page.

Pool paving

For pool paving, we lay the pavers and the coping around the water. The finishes are on the pool surrounds page.

Garden paving

For paving patio and entertainment areas, braai spots and garden paths, see garden and courtyard paving.

What it costs

A 35m² single driveway in standard grey brick is R10,500 to R14,700 installed. 50m² is R15,000 to R21,000, and a 60m² double driveway built to carry a bakkie is R21,000 to R31,000. Labour on its own is R100 to R200 per square metre. The full breakdown — pavers, labour and sub-base — is on our paving prices Cape Town page.

If a written price from one of the paving contractors you are comparing does not say what goes under the bricks, the sub-base has usually been left out. That is the layer you never see and the one that fails first. Ask contractors to state the sub-base depth before you compare totals or anyone starts to pave.

How to request a site visit

  1. Site visit. Request a price through the form on this page, or contact us on 081 408 9946, from anywhere in Cape Town and the Winelands. Tell us roughly how big the paving project is and what it is for. We look at the ground, the access and the fall before putting a number to anything. There is no charge for the visit.
  2. Written, itemised price. Rate per square metre, sub-base depth, paver type and edge details all stated, so you can compare it against other paving contractors’ prices.
  3. One team on site. The people who price the job are the people who build it.

Paving installation: why the sub-base matters

Two prices from contractors for the same driveway can differ by thousands, and the difference is almost never the brick. It is what goes underneath. A price that puts bedding sand straight onto soil will always look cheaper than one that includes a compacted G5 stone sub-base — and it will settle, rut and open at the joints within a season or two. Comparing contractors on their reviews? Request the proposed sub-base depth for the paving installation in writing as well, so you know what is planned under the driveway at your home.

Paving maintenance after the job

For paving maintenance, cleaning and re-sealing pavers is a service we offer. Lifting and re-laying existing bricks costs R150 per square metre. Request a price for either through the form on this page.

Common questions

Do you charge for a quote?

No. We measure on site and give you a written price at no cost. Request one through the form on this page.

How long does a job take?

A typical single or double driveway is two to three days on site. A larger paving project, or one where old bricks must be lifted first, takes longer.

Do you remove the old bricks and rubble?

Yes. Taking the rubble away is included in the price.

Do you work on commercial sites?

Yes. We pave complex and office parking, industrial yards and access roads, built to carry the vehicles that will use them.

What guarantee do you give?

We stand behind our workmanship. Settlement caused by a base we built is our problem to fix, which is why we do not cut the base to win a price.
