What the ground is like here

The southern suburbs get the Peninsula’s rainfall, and a lot of the older properties sit on slopes running off the mountain. Water is the design problem here, not load. Fall has to be set so run-off leaves the property instead of pooling against a garage door or a 1930s foundation, and on the steeper Constantia and Bishopscourt sites a channel drain across the entrance is usually cheaper than fixing what run-off does downhill. Permeable paving does well in this belt for exactly that reason.
