Paving Contractors Cape Town – Driveways, Patios and Parking Areas

hero driveway Cape Town

Paving Wiz is a paving contractor working across greater Cape Town — the northern and southern suburbs, Helderberg, the Winelands and the West Coast. We lay driveways, patios, pool surrounds, walkways and parking areas in brick, cobble, exposed aggregate, permeable paving and tar, and we quote in writing, itemised, per square metre, after measuring on site.

What we do

Service Typical job
Driveway paving Single and double driveways built on a compacted sub-base to carry vehicles
Patio & braai areas Entertainment areas, often cobble or exposed aggregate
Pool surrounds Non-slip surfaces laid to fall away from the pool
Walkways & garden paths Lighter build-up, foot traffic only
Parking areas Complexes, offices and retail — heavier base, marked bays
Commercial & industrial Yards and access roads carrying heavy vehicles
Paving repairs & re-laying Sunken or spread sections lifted, base corrected, bricks re-laid
Sealing Joint stabilising and sealing on exposed, windy sites

What paving costs

Installed paving in Cape Town runs R300 to R580 per square metre. A standard grey brick driveway sits near the bottom of that range and exposed aggregate near the top. The rate is built from three parts, and the one that is easiest to leave out of a quote is the sub-base.

What you are paying for Rate What moves it
Pavers R120 – R200/m² Thickness, colour, shape
Labour R100 – R200/m² Pattern, cutting, site access
Sub-base & bedding R80 – R180/m² Soil type, depth, vehicle load
Installed total R300 – R580/m²

In job terms: a 35m² single driveway is R10,500 to R14,700, 50m² is R15,000 to R21,000, and a 60m² double driveway on a vehicle-rated base is R21,000 to R31,000. Anything quoted far below R300/m² has usually left the sub-base out. Rates by paving type, the factors that push a quote up and more worked examples are on our paving prices Cape Town page.

How we work

  1. Site visit and measure. We look at the ground, the access and the fall before quoting. There is no charge for this.
  2. Written, itemised quote. Rate per square metre, sub-base depth, paver type and edge details all stated.
  3. Excavate and build the base. The layer that decides whether the job lasts.
  4. Lay, cut and edge. Pattern set to suit the load, edges haunched so the paving holds shape.
  5. Joint, compact and clean up. Rubble removed, site left usable.

Why the sub-base is the thing to compare

Two paving quotes for the same driveway can differ by thousands, and the difference is almost never the brick. It is what goes underneath. A quote that prices bedding sand straight onto soil will always look cheaper than one that prices a compacted G5 stone sub-base — and it will settle, rut and open at the joints within a season or two. When you compare quotes, ask each contractor to state the sub-base depth in writing.

Common questions

Do you charge for a quote?

No. We measure on site and give you a written price at no cost, anywhere in greater Cape Town.

How long does a job take?

A typical single or double driveway is two to three days on site. Larger areas and jobs where old paving must be lifted take longer.

Do you remove the old paving and rubble?

Yes. Lifting existing paving or concrete and removing the rubble is quoted as a separate line so you can see what it costs.

Do you work on commercial sites?

Yes — complex and office parking, industrial yards and access roads, built to carry the vehicles that will use them.

What guarantee do you give?

We stand behind our workmanship. Settlement caused by a base we built is our problem to fix, which is why we do not cut the base to win a price.
